Turkish athlete Ali Kaya in men’s and Kenyan Violah Jepchumba in women’s were the winner of the Elite Athletes category of 2016 Vodafone Istanbul Half Marathon.
The marathon took start from Yenikapı Meeting Area and finished in Yenikapı after 21km racetracks at the Historical Peninsula in İstanbul. 40 men and 19 women, total 59 athletes from 10 countries participated at the marathon where Turkey was represented by 16 men and 8 women athletes in this category.
Sport General Director Mehmet BaykanIstanbul Sports Events Co. (Spor A.Ş.) General Director İsmail Özbayraktar and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ender Buruk were present at the start of the race.
Turkish athlete Ali Kaya won the race in elite men’s with his time of 1:00:16, equalling the best time of the Race. Zersenay Tadesse from Eritrea was the runner-up with 1:00:28 and Kenya Leonard Kipkoech Langat took third place with 1:00:37.
Kenyan athlete Violah Jepchumba in elite women’s finished the half-marathon in 1:08:16 and two Ethiopian athletes, Meskeram Assefa became second with 1:09:37 and Amane Gobena Gemeda finished the half- marathon in the third place with her 1:09:47 time.
A “Business Marathon” also took place in the event where the participating companies’ employee teams competed together with a quarter-marathon of 10, 5 km and relay race of 21,5 km.
