Turkish Olympic Committee’s (TOC) Free Sports School Project (FSS), sponsored by Coca-Cola Turkey, have completed 2015-2016 season. The activities have come to an end for the season in the tournament that was held in Pendik Fethi Gemuhluoğlu Promary School on Sunday, 5 June 2016. TOC Executive Board Member Ayda Uluç and FSS Project Coordinator Suzan Kum had also attended the tournament.
500 children from FSS Schools in Pendik, Kartal and Darıca and their parents attended the tournament of the FSS Project which embraces young people aged seven to fifteen without any discrimination of their physical attributes like height or weight so long as they want to participate in sports. The students of the “special” group, that implemented in FSS in 2002, also participated the tournament.
The tournament started with a minute of silence, followed by Turkish National Anthem and the kids did fun athletics afterwards. The children had a fun day in the tournament in which they played volleyball and basketball. Medals were distributed to children who took part in the tournament.
About Free Sports Schools Project
- The FSS Project embraces boys, girls and young people aged seven to fifteen without any discrimination of their physical attributes like height or weight so long as they want to participate in sports.
- The schools within the FSS Project carry out sports activities twice a week in volleyball, basketball and fun athletics in sports halls that are approved by the Governorship and are associated with the Provincial Directorates for National Education or with the Provincial Directorates of Youth and Sports.
- If their status permits, physical education teachers may perform as trainers in the FSS Project schools. Otherwise, graduates or students of Physical Education and Sports Faculties may take on this duty.
- FSS Project schools carry out their activities throughout the school year. At the end of the school year they conclude the activities and organize a tournament with the participation of all FSS schools.
- There are no fees for participation in sports activities in the FSS Project schools for children or young people.
