Hacettepe University Faculty of Sports Sciences lecturer and Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC) member Prof. Dr. Haydar was elected Vice President of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) in the meeting held in Monte Carlo, Monaco on 26-27 February 2016 which he attended the as the representative of Turkey.
CIGEPS, being one of the major committees of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), carries out studies with the roles and values of sports to take part in public related policies. CIGEPS, consists of 18 country members, including Turkey, from around the world in physical education and sports.
Prof. Dr. Haydar Demirel
Prof. Dr. Demirel graduated from 19 Mayıs Youth and Sports Academy in 1978 and Ankara University Medical Faculty in 1984. With the Ph.D. in Physiologyfrom University of a Ankara in 1999. Prof. Dr. Demirel became an associate professor in the sports medicine field in 2000 and a professor in the field of Sports Sciences at Hacettepe University in 2005. Prof. Dr. Demirel, whose main area of work is on exercise and muscle adaptation to other physiological stresses, has won the Hacettepe University ‘s Medicine and Health Sciences award in 2007. Having served as the Deputy Dean of Hacettepe University Faculty of Sports Sciences in the years between 2013 and 2016, Prof. Dr. Demirel is currently working as a lecturer at the same university.
