With the support of Olympic Solidarity and in cooperation with the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC), International Judo Federation (IJF) and Turkish Judo Federation (TJF), the IJF Level 1 Coaches Training Seminar and Practice Exam was held in Istanbul between 14-19 November and 21-26 November 2022.
Under the supervision of IJF Academy Managers Envic Galea, Tibor Kozsla, Kaya Gezeker, IJF Academy Turkey Regional Training Centre Coordinator Kaya Gezeker, IJF Academy Expert Mesut Kapan and other experts, 32 coaches from 13 countries successfully completed the practice exams consisting of three stages. A total of three women, three men, and six coaches from Türkiye were among the trainees.
The participants received up-to-date information on the theoretical and practical use of judo techniques as well as nutrition, physiology, and athlete health.
IJF Vice President and European Judo Union (EJU) President Laszlo Toth, Turkish Judo Federation (TJF) President Sezer Huysuz, and TOC Secretary General Neşe Gündoğan visited the participants during the training and wished them success.
IJF Academy President Envic Galea, in his statement at the seminar, emphasized that for the first time, a record number of participants from 5 continents and 34 countries in two separate groups, including trainee coaches and expert trainers, participated in the seminar and that Istanbul was the right choice as the regional training center.
Derya Cıbır Zengi, one of the trainee coaches, said that they will be able to transfer their previous knowledge to future generations in a better way by reinforcing and updating their previous knowledge with the theoretical and practical training they received at the international level in the IJF Academy course.
For the first time in the history of the IJF Academy, coaches from the Kingdom of Brunei, Ethiopia, France, Cambodia, Kosovo, and Rwanda participated in addition to other participating countries.
In 2013, 170 coaches from Türkiye completed the 1st level and 60 coaches completed the 2nd level, making Türkiye one of the top three countries in the world in terms of training.
