Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Erdener said, “First of all, I would like to congratulate our athlete Dilara Narin, who won the gold medal in the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. We are witnessing once again how important clean sport is, a concept highly valued by the International Olympic Committee. Both the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), of which I am on the Board of Directors, work hard to keep the sport clean. Another concept that the IOC values highly is gender equality. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we will witness an Olympics where 50%-50% of gender equality is achieved for the first time in history. As the meeting point of these two concepts, I am happy to present Dilara with the gold medal she deserves at this ceremony.”
After receiving her medal, Dilara Narin said, “I won the silver medal in second place at the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. However, when it was determined that my opponent was using a prohibited substance, the gold medal I deserved was given to the Olympic House by TOC President Prof. Dr. It was given to me by Uğur Erdener. I would like to thank everyone who supported me and stood by me during this process, especially my federation and the Turkish Olympic Committee. My next goal is to win a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.”
