A total of 24 athletes, 11 girls and 13 boys, will represent our country at the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), held on 21 - 28 January 2023 in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy as well as in the neighbouring countries of Austria (Spittal) and Slovenia (Planica).
At the event, which will be the first EYOF to include freestyle skiing and ski mountaineering, approximately 1000 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18, from 47 countries will compete in 100 medal competitions across 12 sports: alpine skiing, figure skating, biathlon, ice hockey, curling, ski mountaineering, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, short track speed skating, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing and snowboarding.
The Opening Ceremony will be held in Trieste and the Closing Ceremony will be held in Udine, and a total of 12 facilities will be used for competitions, including facilities in Austria and Slovenia as well as Italy.
Team Türkiye
Team Türkiye will compete in nine sports including alpine skiing, figure skating, biathlon, curling, ski mountaineering, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, short-track speed skating and snowboarding.
Can Göydaş, Defne Akgerman, Salih Yusuf Kartaltepe and Serra Nur Kartal will compete in alpine skiing; Azra Ulus and Furkan Emre İncel in figure skating; Zülal Türk and Veysel Vurgun in biathlon; Burcu Haşıl, Melisa Cömert, Muhammed Taha Zenit and Mustafa Kantar in curling; Emirhan Kars in ski mountaineering; Alihan Aktaş in ski jumping; Civan Karaman, Muhammed Sida Oğlağa, Rabia Akyol, İrem Dursun, Sude Naz Kahraman, Toprak Efe Eroğlu and Muhammed Bozdağ in short track; and Ömer Faruk Keleşoğlu and Nesibe Yağmur Şengül in snowboarding.
Türkiye in Winter EYOFs
Türkiye has won a total of five medals in our Winter EYOF history, including two silver (short track and curling) and one bronze (snowboarding) at Erzurum 2017, and one silver (short track) and one bronze (short track) at Sarajevo & East Sarajevo 2019.
