participate in sports. In 2015, FSS continued to provide sports education
for children in İstanbul, Kocaeli and Van provinces. Initiated in 2006,
TOC’s very popular ‘Sports Culture and Olympic Education Project (Oli)’,
has accomplished its target of reaching to a million students in early
2015. Our experienced and professional team travels to provinces and
counties to meet elementary school students and inculcate the spirit
of Olympism. With the valuable contributions of our name sponsor,
Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race has once again
become the scene for new records. The organization now has a very
effective role in the promotion of Istanbul and Turkey. Thousands of
swimmers from every continent are competing with each other, even
before the Race itself, during the application phase to become a part of
this unique experience at the Bosphorus strait. 257 of them being women,
816 foreign swimmers from 48 countries competed in the 27
th
edition of
the Race in July 2015. The number would have easily exceeded thousands,
if the number of participants were not limited, due to security reasons.
A new Summer Olympic Games is awaiting us. The countdown for 2016
Rio Games has begun and time flies by. Some of our athletes have
already qualified for Rio and the number is increasing day by day. With the
inclusion of some team sports, we hope that Team Turkey participates
at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016 with at least 150 athletes. Our
goal, not only for Rio but also for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic
Games, ought to be participating with a more populous team. When
Turkey’s population and the amount of resources we allocate to sports
are taken into consideration, unfortunately, it is a fact that we do not get
our money’s worth in sporting results. We cannot claim that we have
reached our anticipated goals or we have achieved success at the recent
European Summer and Winter European Youth Olympic Festivals and
Baku European Games. I do hope and wish that Rio 2016 constitutes a
starting point in this respect

için yıllardır yürütmekte olduğumuz Ücretsiz Spor Okulları (ÜSO)
projemiz İstanbul, Kocaeli ve Van’da devam etti. Bugüne dek bir
milyonun üzerinde çocuğa ulaştığımız Spor Kültürü ve Olimpik Eğitim
Projesi (Oli) her kesimden büyük ilgi görüyor. Tecrübeli ve donanımlı
profesyonel ekibimiz illeri, ilçeleri dolaşarak ilköğretim çağındaki
öğrencilerimizle buluşuyor, onlara Olimpizm ruhunu aşılıyor.
Boğaziçi Kıtalararası Yüzme Yarışı, organizasyona aynı zamanda
adını veren Samsung’un değerli katkısıyla yine rekorlara sahne oldu.
Bu organizasyon İstanbul’un ve Türkiye’nin tanıtımında artık çok
etkin bir role sahip… Her kıtadan, dünyanın her yerinden binlerce
yüzücü İstanbul Boğazı’ndaki bu eşsiz deneyimi yaşayabilmek için
daha yarışma öncesi kayıtlar esnasında birbiriyle yarışıyor. Temmuz
ayındaki 27. yıl yarışına 48 ülkeden 257’si kadın 816 yabancı yüzücü
katıldı. Güvenlik nedeniyle katılımcı sayısı sınırlanmamış olsa sadece
yurt dışından gelenlerin sayısı rahatlıkla birkaç bini aşardı…
Önümüzde yeni bir Yaz Olimpiyat Oyunları var. 2016 Rio için geri
sayım başladı, zaman çok da çabuk akıp gidiyor. Sporcularımızın bir
bölümü şimdiden bu oyunlara katılma hakkını elde etmiş durumda.
Listeye her gün yeni isimler ekleniyor. Takım sporlarında da vize
alarak modern Olimpiyatlar tarihinin 31. Yaz Oyunları’nda en az 150
sporcudan oluşan bir kafileyle yer almak arzumuzdur. Sadece Rio’ya
değil, 2018 PyeongChang Kış Oyunları’na da ciddi ölçekte bir sporcu
kafilesiyle gidebilmek hedefimiz olmalıdır. Nüfusumuza ve spora
ayırdığımız kaynaklara baktığımızda, bunun karşılığı oranda sportif
sonuçlar elde edemediğimiz maalesef bir gerçektir. Son Avrupa
Gençlik Olimpik Yaz ve Kış Festivallerinde, Bakü Avrupa Oyunları’nda
başarıyı yakaladığımızı, arzuladığımız hedeflere ulaştığımızı
söyleyemeyiz. 2016 Rio’nun bu açıdan bir başlangıç teşkil etmesini
umuyorum ve diliyorum.
