uz Hokeyi adından da an-
laşılacağı gibi buzun üze-
rinde iki takımla oynanan bir
spor dalıdır. Hokey, pak deni-
len sıkıştırılmış plastik bir top-
la oynanır. Oyuncular hokey
patenleriyle sahada yer alır.
Hokey sopalarıyla pakı (dis-
ki) kontrol etmeye çalışıp, pakı
kaleye sokarak sayı kazanırlar.
Takımda biri kaleci olmak üze-
re altı oyuncu molasız oynar.
Aslen bir takımda 20’den fazla
oyuncu vardır. Bir oyuncu ku-
ralları ihlal ederse hakem ceza
olarak takımı bir süreliğine beş
kişiyle oynatır. Maçlar 20 daki-
kalık üç devreden oluşur.
Buz Hokeyi Sahası
Oyun sahasının boyutları en
çok 61 metre, en az ise 56
metre uzunluğunda ve 30
metre eninde olmalıdır. En
fazla 7 ila 8.5 metre yarıçap-
ta olan sahanın köşeleri oval-
dir. Buz sahasının yanları ‘bord’
olarak bilinen ağaç veya plas-
tik bir duvarla çevrilmiştir.
Buzun üstünden ölçüldüğünde
1.17 metreden alçak veya 1.22
metreden yüksek durumda bu-
lunur. Yan duvarların altında,
15 ila 25 santimetre yüksekli-
ğinde ve sarı renkte bir tekme

History
According to a number of
sources, curved stick and ball
games existed since the earli-
er ages. An example; ancient
drawings dated circa 4000
B.C. found in Egyptian temples
feature a similar game to field
hockey. Similarly, in Ireland,
north-western Europe, the
Statutes of Kilkenny banned
the games played with sticks
and rocks to prevent injuries
in 1366. Again in Ireland, the
Galway Statutes dated at 1527
make reference to a game de-
fined as hurling a little ball
with sticks.
The word hockey itself is of
unknown origin, although it
is likely a derivative of Middle
French word ‘hoquet’ (a shep-
herd’s crook) according some
suppositions and Dutch word

Kilkenny Kanunları, sakatlık-
ların ortaya çıkmasına ne-
den olan sopa ve topla oy-
nanan oyunları yasaklamıştır.
Yine İrlanda’da çıkarılan 1527
Galway Kanunları küçük bir
top ve sopa ile oynanan bir
oyuna değinmiştir.
Hokey kelimesinin nereden
geldiğine dair kesin bir bilgi
bulunmamaktadır. Ancak var-
sayımlara göre Eski Fransızca
‘hoquet’ (çoban değneği) keli-
mesinden, bazılarına göre ise
Hollandaca bir kelime olan
‘hokkie’den (gerçek anlamı

played on ice with two teams.
It is played with a hard rubber
disc called ‘puck’. The skaters
use sticks to shoot the puck
into their opponent’s net to
score points. Players wear ice
hockey skates on the playing
surface. There are six players,
including the goal keeper, on
a team playing without time-
outs. A team comprises of 20
players. If a player violates the
rules, the referee makes the
team to play with five play-
ers for a period as a penal-
ty. A game consists of three
20-minute periods.

Surface
The game is played on a white
ice surface known as a “rink”.
The dimensions of the rink
are; maximum size: 61 metres
long by 30 metres wide, min-
imum size: 56 metres long by
26 metres wide. The corners
shall be rounded in the arc of
a circle with a radius of 7 to
8,5 metres. The rink is sur-
rounded by a wooden or plas-
tic wall known as the “Boards”.
