mak amacıyla verdiği 2013
IOC Kadın ve Spor Ödülü’nü
TMOK Başkanı IOC Üyesi Prof.
Dr. Uğur Erdener’den aldı.
Ödülünü aldıktan sonra bir ko-
nuşma yapan Jülide Sonat,
“Böyle bir ödüle beni aday gös-
terdikleri için öncelikle Türkiye
Milli Olimpiyat Komitesi ’ne te-
şekkür ederim. Ben çok şanslı
bir insanım. Bu görevi ifa etme
ve Türk kadın basketbolu-
na hizmet etme şansı buldum.
Bu noktada teşekkür etmem
gereken bir isim daha var;

Kendisi, Türkiye’de kadınlara
güvenerek görev verildiğinde
başarılara nasıl ulaşılabilece-
ğini önceden gördü” dedi.
Gelecek yıl Türkiye’de düzenle-
necek olan 2014 FIBA Kadınlar
Dünya Şampiyonası için herke-
sin çok emek verdiğine de de-
ğinen Sonat, “Önümüzde ev
sahipliği yapacağımız 2014
Kadınlar Dünya Şampiyonası
var. A Milli Kadın Basketbol
Takımımız bu şampiyona-
ya gelene kadar büyük ba-
şarılara imza attı. Olimpiyat
Oyunları’nda beşincilik elde
ettik, mucizeler yarattık. Bu
başarılarda bu salonda olan
herkesin emeği var. Bu ödülü
herkes adına aldığımı düşünü-
yorum” diye konuştu.
“Kızlara her zaman, çocukları-
na gösterebilecekleri madal-
yalar ve başarılar kazanmala-
rı gerektiğini söylerim,” diyen
Jülide Sonat konuşmasını şöy-
le sonlandırdı:
“Ona ayırmam gereken zaman-
larda başka işlerle meşgul ol-
duğum ve kendisine bugüne
kadar ödül veremediğim biri-
si var. Oğluma teşekkür etmek
istiyorum. Bu ödülü onun adı-
na da alıyorum.”

Bilgiler Fakültesi Kamu
Yönetimi Bölümü mezu-
nu olan Jülide Sonat, 1969-
1979 yılları arasında aktif bas-
ketbol oyunculuğunun ardın-
dan, 1979-1983 yılları arasın-
da Tofaş Spor Kulübü’nde bas-
ketbol antrenörü olarak da gö-
rev yapmıştı.

In her speech after receiving
her Award Sonat said: “First of
all I would like to thank the
National Olympic Committee
of Turkey for having nominated
me for such an award. I am a
very lucky person. I took this of-
fice and had a chance to serve
Turkish women’s basketball. At
this point, there is someone
else I have to thank to; Turgay
Demirel… He has foreseen how
success can be attained once
one trusts and assign women
into offices.”
Mentioning the hard work by
everyone involved for the or-
ganization of the Women’s
World Championship next year
Sonat said: “We have before
us the 2014 Women’s World
Championship that we will
host. Our Women’s National
Team underwrote a number of
huge successes to get into this
Championship. We created mir-
acles, got the fifth place at the
Olympics. Everybody present
here in this hall have a part in
these achievements. I receive
this award on behalf of every-
body here.”
Saying “I always tell the girls
that they must win medals and
achieve successes that they
can later show to their children”
Jülide Sonat concluded her ad-
dress saying: “There is someone
whom I, preoccupied with other
things, denied the time I should
have devoted to him and could
not give an award to… I want to
thank my son and I accept this
award on his behalf as well.”

Marmara University, coached

team from 1979 to 1983 fol-
lowing her active career as
a basketball player between
1969-1979.
were presented to the NOC
members who has fulfilled
their 25 years of membership.
Jülide Sonat, in the of-
fice for the fifth term as the
Board Member in charge of
Women’s Basketball’ of the
Turkish Basketball Federation
and having played an im-
portant role in the success
of the Women’s National
Team’s taking second place at
EuroBasket 2011 and the fifth
place in London 2012 Olympic
Games, was nominated by the
NOC of Turkey. Sonat received
her 2013 Women and Sport
Award of the IOC to honour
the persons making outstand-
ing contributions to sports,
from Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener,
