Turkey’s young athletes experienced another successful day at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) on the third day of competition in Gyor, Hungary.
Mehmet Çelik claimed Turkey’s second gold of the week with a strong performance seeing him crowned 1500m champion at the Olympic Sport Park.
Demirkan Demir continued his excellent form at the EYOF, winning his second swimming medal of the week in the 200m boy’s breaststroke competition. He improved on yesterday’s bronze by winning the silver medal, with his time of 2.17,44 just 0.00,01 of a second slower than Caspar Corbeau from the Netherlands.
Metehan Acar added to Turkey’s tally with an impressive silver medal in the boy’s javelin, whilst Zeliha Cinci continued this week’s success in the judo competition by winning bronze in the girl’s -48kg.
In basketball, Turkey’s boys continued their unbeaten run, comfortably beating Lithuania 98-67 in an excellent team performance. The girls unfortunately lost 83-58 to a strong Spanish side.
Turkey currently sit in seventh position in the medal table, with 33 of the 50 countries having now won medals this week.
